As you might have learned in a previous blog post, or in case you’re not quite sure, Search Engine Optimization is the process of driving targeted traffic to your website directly from search engines (like Google, Yahoo, etc.)

Long story short, your website is your #1 most important marketing tool, so you want content (like blog posts, videos, etc. — hence why blogging will never not serve a purpose!) optimized so that it appears in search engine results. In addition to this, any social media platforms + advertising outlets should also be setup to drive traffic directly back to your website, so it really needs to be developed properly in attracting the right audience to your brand and therefore, generating more leads and sales. It’s also important to know that each page of your site must have enough copy (words!) to support SEO efforts. Focusing on keyword research and the overall user experience of your site play big roles in SEO and as time goes on, SEO is really a huge and individual marketing initiative and investment that a business should tackle all on its own.

Having a “pretty” website means nothing without the right content to support it. And, a pretty website doesn’t matter if there is no one visiting it! Here are 3 (super important) reasons why SEO is so important for your business — and a smart investment!

It creates an overall positive user experience!

A lot of things go into ensuring that people will not only land on your website, but also stay a while. You obviously want them to click around, learn more about what you offer and ultimately be interested enough to at least want to contact you or even possibly make a purchase. (Meaning, your goal is always to convert as many visitors as possible!) In order for this to happen, your site has to be designed well, easy to navigate, mobile-friendly and offer the content that they’re looking for. When a visitor has a positive experience after visiting your website, they are more likely to return, to tell others about you and to see that your brand is professional and an expert at what you do.

It’s the #1 way to drive organic traffic to your website.

Organic traffic is driven to your website by an engine search (like Google.) This means that visitors haven’t arrived via any paid efforts or referrals from other websites. SEO is the driver behind this. Once again, when your site is optimized, you will appear more often in searches and potential buyers will be able to more easily find you.

It’s a long-term investment.

When your SEO is working right, you should be able to not have to focus as much on paid advertising. SEO is something that will always be around and much-needed, as long as there are websites housing content. Whether you work with a consultant or hire an agency, look at focusing on SEO efforts as a business investment, in which you will be able to actually see numeric results. Analytics will tell you how and how many visitors are coming to your website and you will hopefully see an increase in sales alone, thanks to those website conversions. It’s one aspect of online marketing that is more than worth spending time on!
